The French Café is a partnership between husband and wife team Creghan Molloy Wright, Restaurant Manager, and Simon Wright, Executive Chef. With an already award-winning restaurant, Creghan and Simon approached Katie Lockhart Studio to help develop the interiors of their new private dining concept, The French Kitchen. The space, housed within an old stable, was designed to have an open kitchen and provide guests with the ultimate chef’s table experience with Simon cooking for a limited number of guests.
We developed the concept based on the request that the interior be intimate and domestic – like being in a home – and oversaw the design and selection of all pieces in the space, including the bathrooms, table settings and linens. Colour palette was kept to a minimum and almost everything developed was designed and crafted bespoke. Grant Bailey made all the cabinetry and tables with Iroko timber. Local artist Stephen Bradbourne developed the light fittings. Select table settings included items from local artisans Kamaka Pottery and US-based Heath Ceramics.
