Katie Lockhart has worked with my company on every interior project and many art directional projects since starting her practise in Auckland. In total, we have worked with Katie on over 50 separate projects ranging from our retail stores to product imagery as well as projects within my own home. On every one of these projects we have found Katie to be the perfect collaborator. She knows our brand and its values inside out. She quickly gets a full understanding of the brief and the project’s intention. She delivers an exciting, original result on time, on budget and with minimal issues. Most importantly though, Katie has been a crucial part in helping my brand develop an original, charming, elegant yet whimsical look and feel in its retail experience and its voice beyond that. In the time that we’ve been working with Katie there is no other designer we’ve considered working with and we expect and hope that this trusting, fruitful and enjoyable relationship will continue for decades to come. I wholeheartedly recommend Katie as a visionary, modern and tasteful designer and an excellent and most organised project manager.

I have admired Lockhart’s colour work since entering Michael Lett’s 2000’s apartment with it’s acid yellow floor, dirty pink skirting boards and white walls. Fresh, fun, violently interesting but working in harmony with the space, his furniture, his art collection. Katie has superb taste but it’s offset by a sense of humour which means that her choices are always surprising but never loud. Katie has consulted for me on colour’s for my home, my studio and numerous exhibitions, and I embrace her choices without hesitation. Perhaps because of her years working in Italy there is something European about her sensibility, but somehow there is a pacific twist and contemporary.
We have worked with Katie and her team intensely over the past three years for the roll–out of five retail stores. Her foresight and guidance on day one helped us conceptualise the design process from then on. What we know now is that Katie had created an initial design that could evolve with the business and has become integral to the brand architecture. She elegantly balanced our commercial needs with the right aesthetic. Our connection to Katie as a designer, maker and artist gave us the confidence to take on more projects — she makes the process exciting and the result rewarding. Despite having other fashion retail clients she found a way to create a signature look for our brand and do so under often intense time pressure and restrictive budgets. Katie is truly creative and unique in her approach — earning our utmost respect and admiration.

We have been fortunate enough for Katie Lockhart to design the new addition to our fine dining restaurant, The French Kitchen. She was a pleasure to work with and we would haven hesitation recommending Katie for any project. She always has considered and listened to our wishes and as a result created a space for us that exceeded our expectations. Katie was extremely professional and communicated with us consistently through the project but more importantly was highly organised and delivered before, or met all deadlines. Katie is very talented and passionate about her job and this most certainly shows in all of her work. We would have no hesitation to work with Katie for future projects and hope that we have this opportunity very soon. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us further.

I have has the pleasure of knowing Katie Lockhart for many years and she is a very significant part of a group of people I work with when creative excellence is the inescapable dictate. Katie has a talent which is enviable and one which always takes your delight and surprise much further than your expectation. As an interior designer she is world class and without question. The evidence is there for all to see and admire. The Department Store, rated by Monocle Magazine as the best in the world for innovation, creative design dynamic and all presenting a ‘good practical sense’ of commercial function. The Karen Walker stores, Blaze salon and Pony Professional (to mention a few) all simply beautiful concepts with originality being the continuing feature of her uncanny expertise. I would be happy to advance my admiration for Katie to anyone who wants to call me.
Katie has a great eye and helped us create something casual yet at the same time sophisticated. She knows how to deliver simplistic elegance and brought to the table a wealth of knowledge and contacts.

I have collaborated professionally with Katie over the last 5 years, working on both small–scale projects and larger–scale commercial fit–outs. When it comes to creating something truly unique and stand alone, for me there is simply no other choice than Katie. In my experience, it is a rare find when someone possesses creative and conceptual talent balanced with a strong sense of practical execution and who is sensitive to the needs of a highly–functioning business, but Katie has mastered this ‘sweet–spot’. Katie’s hand in conceptualising one of my key projects from the past few years, The Department Store in Auckland, saw us gain huge international recognition. Her ability to create a unique interior space resulted in plaudits from Monocle magazine who recognised The Department Store as one of the top 25 new retail concepts in the world with Conde Nast Traveller soon echoing the same sentiment, as one of the seven retail wonders of the world. Throughout this process Katie displayed and astute understanding of the modern consumer and the subtle ways in which we could engage on both visual and sensory level. From a sea of talent, Katie offers something much more considered and enduring. Balancing commercial pressures with an eye for quality and detail is what makes her work so distinctive and has established her as a world–renowned talent.

Katie Lockhart was commissioned to design and complete my FABRIC retail space in 2016. I have worked in retail and design for 20 years internationally and this was the first time we had employed a designer to create a 3–d version of my brand. I have worked with Comme Des Garcon, Martin Margiela, Marc Jacobs, Isabel Marant, Philip Lim, Carven, Chloe, Visvim, Undercover, and many other brands over the years. Therefore it was not an envious task to be able to create a space that could effectively display each collection individually, but also be a showcase for the FABRIC brand itself. Katie was able to take my love of Japanese architecture, design and culture (I have a denim brand that is based and produced in Japan) and mould a modern space that is not only a platform for my brand, but also a showcase for international designers. Katie designed, created, and built a space that has changed my life. We have forwarded images to our partners worldwide who have responded with rapturous applause and praise. We continue to get positive feedback each week and look forward to working with Katie and her team on many more projects as time goes on.
