Katie Lockhart has worked with my company on every interior project and many art directional projects since starting her practise in Auckland. In total, we have worked with Katie on over 50 separate projects ranging from our retail stores to product imagery as well as projects within my own home. I have admired Lockhart’s colour work since entering Michael Lett’s 2000’s apartment with it’s acid yellow floor, dirty pink skirting boards and white walls. Fresh, fun, violently interesting but working in harmony with the space, his furniture, his art collection. Katie has superb taste but it’s offset by a sense of humour which means that her choices are always surprising but never loud. Katie has consulted for me on colour’s for my home, my studio and numerous exhibitions, and I embrace her choices without hesitation. Katie Lockhart was commissioned to design and complete my FABRIC retail space in 2016. I have worked in retail and design for 20 years internationally and this was the first time we had employed a designer to create a 3–d version of my brand. I have worked with Comme Des Garcon, Martin Margiela, Marc Jacobs, Isabel Marant, Philip Lim, Carven, Chloe, Visvim, Undercover, and many other brands over the years. Therefore it was not an envious task to be able to create a space that could effectively display each collection individually, but also be a showcase for the FABRIC brand itself. Katie was able to take my love of Japanese architecture, design and culture (I have a denim brand that is based and produced in Japan) and mould a modern space that is not only a platform for my brand, but also a showcase for international designers. Katie designed, created, and built a space that has changed my life. We have forwarded images to our partners worldwide who have responded with rapturous applause and praise. We continue to get positive feedback each week and look forward to working with Katie and her team on many more projects as time goes on.
